Does a PSA rise indicate prostate cancer?
PSA is a blood test developed to diagnose prostate cancer. Normal PSA levels can vary by age group. There are many causes of elevated PSA other than prostate cancer, including urinary tract infections. Not everyone with a high PSA has prostate cancer. However, if a PSA level is high, it must be proven that it is not caused by cancer. This test is a regular part of annual urologist checkups.
