What causes prostate enlargement?
Prostate enlargement is a condition that occurs in all healthy men who live long enough. The primary cause of prostate enlargement is the stimulation of the male hormone testosterone by the prostate cells. Prostate enlargement is not a disease. Not every enlarged prostate requires treatment. Prostate enlargement only occurs if the patient is experiencing symptoms.
(frequent urination, waking up at night to urinate, straining to urinate, etc.) should be treated. It is recommended that everyone over the age of 45 have a prostate checkup once a year, without waiting for symptoms to be diagnosed.
