Who can undergo open prostate surgery? Is it more effective than closed surgery?
The use of open prostate surgery is decreasing. This is due to the advancement of endoscopic surgical equipment and technology. Currently, open surgery is preferred in patients with very large prostates. If both are performed optimally, there is no difference in effectiveness between open and endoscopic surgery. However, in terms of surgical risks (especially bleeding and postoperative impotence or urinary incontinence), endoscopic surgery can be considered less risky.
